Creating new locations

Introduction

Paragon allows you to track your inventory within your warehouse by using locations. Locations can be as granular as you would like and you can have as many as you want. The following article explains how to add locations in Paragon. If you have a third-party warehouse or don't own your warehouse, we suggest setting up a related company before creating a location.

Create an address for your warehouse location

If you've set up a related company or your warehouse address is the same as your business address, you do not need to do this step.

From any screen, click the settings button

Select my company from the system card.

You will be brought to the my company page. This page displays all the information about your company. To add the warehouse address, click the edit button.

Click the ship button so that it is highlighted in blue and then click the drop-down arrow.

Then click the add new address button.

A pop-up window will appear. This is where you will enter the address for your location. The address search field is integrated with Google Maps, so it will auto-complete the address for you if it is able to find it.

Once you have entered your new address and clicked on the accept button you will be brought back to the my company page. Your address will have been added to the ship address field. Click the save button. Now, this address will be available for use in the locations module.

You can repeat these steps for any more locations that you need to enter.

Setting up multiple locations

Multiple warehouses may be needed to easily manage your inventory. To setup multiple locations other than your main warehouse, you will need to add attributes.

From any screen, click the settings button at the top right corner of the screen.

Under the attributes card, select  attribute setup.

Find the warehouse attribute in the list and click the edit button.

The following  attribute modal will appear. Click the next button.

Now you will add attribute values to the warehouse attribute. The attribute values represent the names of your warehouses. Click the add button to create a new warehouse location name.
In the line that appears, type in your warehouse name. You can add as many as you need and when you're ready, click the next button.

Continue clicking the next button until you land on this screen. Then, click save changes.

Now you are able to choose from different warehouse locations, within your main warehouse.

Create a location

From the more tab, select Location.

Click the create new location button.

Address

First, click the arrow in the warehouse area. This will bring up a list of addresses. Select the address that corresponds to the warehouse address you're setting up.

Location type

Next, select a location type from the drop down list.

You can choose from the following options:

  • Default receiving: When you create a receipt, the inventory will be added to this location unless otherwise specified on the receipt.
  • Default shipping: When you create a shipment, the inventory will be deducted from this location unless otherwise specified on the shipment.
  • Default packing: When you create a packing list, the inventory will be reserved in this location unless otherwise specified on the pack list.
  • Default picking: When you create a picking ticket, the inventory will be reserved in this location unless otherwise specified on the pick ticket.
  • Default for work order material reduction: When you receive a work order, the materials required to make the finished goods on the work order will be deducted from this location unless otherwise specified on the receipt.
  • Default for all transactions: This is usually used when you don't have specific requirements for each location or you only have one.

If you do not have a specific use for this location, choose it as default for all transactions as your location type.

It is always recommended to have at least one default for all transactions location.

Location attributes

Next, select the attributes that you want to be added to your location.

If you want to add more attributes, simply create new attributes in attribute setup then add them to screen setup in the location module.

There is also a default option that you can activate on any location - pick location.  This must be checked (set to yes) for any warehouse location that is to be used for picking.

Name your location type

You can enter any description for your location name. In this example, we are using the location attributes as the location name.

Save

When you've finished adding in all your information, click the save button. Your location is now set up. Click the action button to change your new location's status to active.
