Managing units of measure on purchase orders
Learn how to configure and use different Units of Measure (UOM) on Purchase Orders in Paragon to streamline your procurement process.
To purchase products in different quantities—such as pallets, boxes, or individual units—you must configure your purchase orders to handle units of measure (UOM). Before starting, ensure you have already defined your UOMs and created the necessary conversion tables in the system settings.
Configuring the purchase order screen
To see the unit of measure options on your orders, the specific attribute must be active in your screen configuration. We recommend performing these steps in consultation with your Paragon consultant.
-
Navigate to settings > system > screen setup.
-
Select the purchase order module and click the edit button.
-
Click the edit detail attributes button.
-
If the field is not already present, click add and select: Unit of Measure Type.
-
Check the following options for this field:
-
Do not allow multiple values
-
Always display
-
-
Click OK, save the screen setup, and restart Paragon to apply the changes.
Adding the unit of measure field
Once the attribute is active, you must place it on your transaction screen. Use the screen setup tool to drag the Unit of Measure Type field into your preferred position within the purchase order grid or detail panel. This ensures the field is visible when you are entering line items.
Using the UOM on transactions
To specify a specific packaging unit for a line item on an active purchase order:
-
Right-click on the product code within the transaction line.
-
Select edit detail attributes.
-
Select the desired unit from the dropdown menu.
Tip: If you want the system to automatically fill in the unit of measure based on your default vendor-product settings, reach out to your Paragon consultant to enable this automation.
