Unit of Measure (UOM) conversion and setup

Learn how to set up Unit of Measure (UOM) conversions in Paragon to manage purchasing in bulk and selling in units.

Table of contents

In ParagonERP, you can manage products that are purchased in one unit (e.g., a box) but sold in another (e.g., pieces). By setting up a conversion table, the system automatically calculates the correct inventory levels and pricing based on the conversion rate.

Creating UOM conversions

To enable automatic calculations between different units, you must first define the conversion rules.

  1. Navigate to settings > system > UOM conversion.

  2. Click edit and then the plus icon (+) to add a new conversion.

  3. Fill in the following fields:

    • From UOM: The unit you want to convert from (e.g., "inch").

    • To UOM: The unit you want to convert to (e.g., "cm").

    • Conversion Rate: The multiplier used for the conversion (e.g., "2.54").

Configuring the product

Once your conversions are defined, you must assign a base unit to your item.

  1. Open the product module and select your item.

  2. Locate the Unit of Measure field.

  3. Select the unit in which you typically sell the product (e.g., "Pieces").

Vendor-specific UOM references

You can specify different purchase units for each supplier. This allows you to buy in "boxes" from one vendor and "pallets" from another.

  1. Go to the references (Relatie) tab within the product record.

  2. Click edit and then create.

  3. Select Vendor as the Reference Type and choose the specific Reference ID (the supplier).

  4. Select the Unit of Measure field and choose the buying unit (e.g., "Box of 12").

  5. Click finish and then save.

Usage in purchase orders

To see these conversions in action during the purchasing process, ensure the Unit of Measure field is visible in your purchase order screen. When you select a vendor with a linked UOM reference, Paragon will automatically apply the correct conversion logic.
