Setting up third-party logistics (3PL) and warehouse locations

Learn how to set up 3PL providers, create warehouse locations, and use the location lock feature for inventory counts in Paragon.

Table of contents

If your company uses a third-party logistics (3PL) provider to store and ship products, you must configure their facilities as external warehouse locations. This ensures that stock movements and shipping addresses are correctly tracked within the system.

Configuring a 3PL provider

Before creating a warehouse location, you must set up the 3PL provider as a vendor in Paragon.

  1. Create the vendor: Set up the logistics provider in the vendor module. Ensure the shipping address of this vendor record reflects the actual physical address of the external warehouse.

  2. Link to your company: Navigate to settings > system > my company. Under the related warehouse locations section, link the 3PL vendor you just created.

Creating warehouse locations

Once the provider is linked, you can define specific areas or zones within that facility in the location module.

  1. Navigate to the location module (found under the more arrow in the bottom-left menu).

  2. Click the create a new location button (+).

  3. Warehouse: Select the warehouse address. These options are pulled from the shipping addresses of the vendors linked in my company.

  4. Location: Enter a code or number for the specific bin or zone.

  5. Location type: Choose the primary function (e.g., default pick, default shipping, or default all transactions).

  6. Attributes: Assign the "type" of warehouse and determine if this location tracks batch numbers or expiry dates. Click save and then the activate button to make the location live.

Locking locations for inventory counts

You can temporarily close a warehouse location to prevent any stock movements using the lock feature.

  • When to use: Use a lock during a physical inventory count. While locked, no picking, shipping, or receiving transactions can be processed for that specific location.

  • How to lock: Click the more actions arrow and select lock.

  • Inventory counts: If you are performing a full physical count during an inventory import, the location must be locked for the system to process the update correctly.

Important: Remember to release the location once your count is finished. Click the more actions arrow and select unlock to resume normal operations.
